Album Profile - Songs 91 to 85 by Amy X Neuburg

Songs 91 to 85 is a unique audio retrospective from songwriter and performance artist Amy X Neuburg.

Like an aural version of a film run backwards, you hear distinct scenes emerge through changes in style, sound, and subject. The swelling synthesizers of "In A Vacuum" give way to the a capella intro to "All Right", the gritty, dry "HOT," the heartfelt simplicity of "It Never Ends," the danceable Latin-meets-techno-pop of "Take Your Eyes Out," the angry, electronic hardcore of "Get You Out."

Amy's lyrics address such matters as the agony and acceptance of love lost, the strangeness of the world, and the yearning for new experiences, in an unsentimental yet evocative tone.

Amy's vocal explorations are evident throughout this album: whispers, complex layered harmonies, and unexpected operatic tangents. She handles her keyboards with deftness and creativity: a carnival organ opening "Safe Love," chordal chaos ending "Real World."

Songs 91 to 85 offers a record of Amy's musical experimentation, while seducing the listener with an intimate array of feelings and stories.
